This is an intensive, interactive two-day writing course with a week in between sessions to allow participants to complete their writing assignment.

Workshop Format

The first day of the writing course covers what journalists and editors look for in a publishable article, building a knowledge base, gathering rich content from various sources and briefing and interviewing spokespeople.

It also covers article construction and flow, writing style and technique, different approaches to writing press releases, authoritative articles, opinion pieces and other publishable material.

In addition, the participants in these writing courses learn how to address different audiences, be objective and avoid common traps such as fragmented content, too many ideas in an article, waffle, jargon, hyperbole and superfluous words.

In this writing course, you will learn techniques for achieving a balance between marketing messages and content that is useful to the reader. These techniques can be applied to any publishable marketing material.

Each participant in the writing courses then chooses a topic for an article for the workshop writing assignment and is given guidelines as to the content he or she needs to gather in order to write it.

At the follow-up full-day session a week later all the participants’ articles are discussed and analysed by the group and everyone learns from each other during this process.
